Pleasantly Surprised!
I bought this advent calendar for myself as a countdown to my birthday. I was expecting mediocre-quality makeup and some cheap plastic stuff, but a fun way to spend the 24 days leading up to my birthday. What I got instead was a really pleasant surprise: I ended up REALLY liking some of the makeup products (enough that I would actually buy them again if I saw them in a store), and there was hardly anything I actively disliked.I have included swatches of the colour cosmetic products (except the foundation): I really liked the 2 eyeshadow palettes, one of the two blush/highlighter palettes (admittedly, I think ALL of the highlighter shades are weird; there’s no shine or sparkle to any of them, they’re just matte white or pink shades that provide a white-cast, and that’s not what I’m looking for in a highligher! But the peachy blush balm was a good one), both of the liquid lipsticks (that I found on another site called “lip slime” which is actually a pretty apt description!), and the lipstick. The lip liner was OK, and was almost perfectly matched to the lipstick.Of the non-cosmetic products, I liked almost everything except the bow barrette. I found it really cheap to only include one, when they’re usually sold 12 for $2! I definitely will never use the rhinestone gems or the nail art stickers, but almost everything else is at least useful even if I didn’t necessarily want one in the first place. But now I have it, and I’ll use it!Of the cosmetic products, there were a couple disappointments for various reasons: the eyeliner stamp is something I really wanted to try, but it’s bone-dry. Even dipping it in water didn’t do anything to rehydrate the product (and there is a manufacture date and expiry right on the product and it was just made in fall 2025!). It was garbage straight out of the calendar. I also don’t wear fake eyelashes so those are useless to me (and didn’t come with lash glue, so not super-useful without buying yet another product), and the foundation was nowhere near the right shade for me so not useful. I don’t really understand why that type of complexion product is put in an advent calendar because so few people would be able to actually use it. For most it would be a wasted day (and it was day 24!).To me personally, the three stand-out products are the bobeini lip products (they have a velvet-like texture but appear matte, so feel really nice on the lips and don’t at all feel dry like a typical matte liquid lipstick) that last for hours and hours even eating/drinking, and the MLSMILE lipstick that had the most perfect texture on the lips. The colour might not have been my absolute favourite, but that’s a personal preference. I would absolutely buy these 3 products again if I could.Overall, I would highly recommend this calendar. The quality of makeup is overall pretty good, the “extras” included don’t feel cheap or single-use, and the overall experience of the calendar was excellent. I kept all of the little cake slice boxes and plan on refilling it with other stuff next year! I had a good time opening the calendar, I’ll use almost everything that was in it, and it made me actually look forward to my birthday this year!
