I used this serum before applying light makeup– no foundation, just some blush and highlighter followed up with some finishing powder. This gave me a nice dewy glow, even with the finishing powder that mattified it a bit. The highlighter did do a bit of the heavy lifting in terms of glow but I did feel like my skin had a nice finish when paired with the finishing powder. I usually go for a more matte finish because I’m nervous about looking oily or sweaty if I have too much shine, but this wasn’t over the top. I think it helped with moisturizing my skin before applying other makeup, as well. It does contain Niacinamide pretty high on the ingredients list, which is pretty common with Korean skincare products. I like it as an ingredient but some people are sensitive to it. It does also contain fragrance and essential oils, which are totally unnecessary in skincare in the year of our dark lord 2026 and although it can create a more luxurious experience, it can also cause irritation on sensitive skin. I didn’t experience any irritation but my skin is not particularly sensitive, fortunately. Lovely dewy glow – just not for oily skin
I’ve used BANILA CO’s makeup remover and cleanser for almost two years, so I was excited to try their hydrating primer. It’s advertised as the Korean “glass skin” look … not really my personal style goal, but I liked the hydration idea.Application was smooth from day one, with a mild, pleasant scent, and my makeup went on normally over it. Midday, though, I caught my reflection in the mirror and was surprised by how greasy my skin looked. I continued to use it daily and did get use to the glowy look.I have combination/oily skin and normally use a mattifying powder to control shine, so I think this glowy formula just isn’t the right fit for me. I’ll finish the bottle and do like the hydration, but I won’t repurchase this specific one due to my skin type. I’d love to try another primer from this brand better suited to oilier skin.So to summarize – A really nice hydrating glass-skin primer. Great for dry/normal skin – oily or combination types can anticipate noticeable extra shine by midday.

I Didn’t Notice Much Difference
I tried using the Banila Co Dew Boost Makeup Serum Glass Skin Glow Base before applying my foundation, hoping it would give my skin a more hydrated, smooth, glowing finish. Unfortunately, I really didn’t notice much of a difference.My foundation applied fine, but I didn’t find that this serum made it noticeably smoother, more radiant, or longer-lasting. Perhaps someone with very dry skin might see more of a benefit, but for me, the results simply weren’t significant enough.It’s not a bad product, but I don’t see enough of a difference to justify adding another step to my makeup routine. I prefer to keep my routine simple, and this one just didn’t make enough of an impact for me.

This is the type of primer I really like. It applies like a serum and gives my skin that plump, hydrated, healthy-looking glow that makes makeup look so much better. My skin feels softer and smoother, and foundation seems to glide on instead of settling into dry areas. It does contain silicone (specifically Cyclomethicone and Dimethicone) which is what makes makeup sit so well but worth mentioning if you don’t like to use them.The formula has a great mix of niacinamide, glycerin, panthenol, squalane, hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate, and barrier-supporting lipids like cholesterol and lecithin. So it isn’t just giving me surface-level glow—it also helps keep my mid-40’s dry skin feeling moisturized and comfortable.I especially love the combination of multiple forms of hyaluronic acid for hydration, plus squalane and nourishing oils that help lock in that softness. Niacinamide and adenosine are nice bonuses for overall skin quality and the appearance of fine lines, while the botanical extracts and antioxidants add even more skin-loving ingredients.But the real magic happens under makeup. It leaves my skin dewy without feeling heavy or greasy, and it creates a smoother canvas for foundation which helps a lot as I have larger pores that my makeup likes to settle into. My makeup looks fresher, more luminous, and less cakey than it does without the primer. It has the perfect amount of lightly tacky grip without feeling like I smeared honey on my face so I could wear this without makeup if I wanted to for a fresh glow and extra hydration/barrier protection.This is definitely more of a hydrating, glow-boosting makeup-prep serum than a hardcore treatment serum, but that’s exactly what I want from it. It’s like giving my skin a little drink of water and then telling my makeup, “Okay, now behave.” 😂If you love hydrated, plump, glassy-looking skin and a beautiful makeup base, this is definitely worth trying! The price is fair for the amount and how much you use (I use a pump or two.) I will definitely buy this again.

Dew Boost is a hydrating serum and makeup primer that’s excellent for dry skin
I think of the Banila Co Dew Boost Makeup Serum as skincare and a hydrating makeup primer in one. It leaves my dry skin feeling hydrated, soft and smooth, and foundation applies great over it without catching as much on dry texture.I was pleasantly surprised by the ingredient list. Birch sap is actually the second ingredient rather than something sprinkled in at the bottom for marketing purposes. Birch sap can contribute hydration and soothing compounds, and it’s backed up here by an impressive humectant blend including glycerin, propanediol, methyl gluceth-20, glycereth-26 and butylene glycol.There’s also niacinamide fairly high on the list for barrier and brightening support, while macadamia oil, caprylic/capric triglyceride, squalane, cholesterol and other lipids help soften and condition dry skin. Cyclomethicone and dimethicone add the smooth slip that makes particularly good sense in something designed to go underneath makeup. There are also three forms of hyaluronic acid further down the list, along with panthenol, adenosine and numerous plant extracts, vitamins and amino acids.The result feels more substantial than simply putting a basic hyaluronic acid serum underneath my foundation. It gives me that hydrated, slightly dewy, flexible surface I want from a primer without feeling excessively heavy or coating.My one minor complaint is the fragrance. It has a light but somewhat sharp floral scent that I could happily do without, especially in facial skincare. However, it hasn’t caused any irritation on my sensitive skin so far, and the scent doesn’t outweigh how much I like the formula.For dry or dehydrated skin that tends to look worse once foundation goes on, I think this is especially nice. My skin feels comfortable and hydrated and my makeup applies easily over it.

ProsI like the serum-like texture because it feels lighter than a traditional primer and gives me a hydrated, slightly tacky base without feeling heavy. The combination of birch sap, glycerin, niacinamide, squalane, panthenol, and multiple forms of hyaluronic acid makes this feel like more than just a cosmetic primer. I also like the smooth slip from the silicones because my makeup goes on more evenly and the finish looks dewy rather than dry or cakey.ConsThe fragrance is the main thing I could do without. It is not overwhelming to me, but I would rather skip fragrance and rose oil entirely in something I am putting all over my face. I also think the very dewy finish could be a little much when I want a more matte look, so I have to be careful not to use too much.RecommendationI think this works best for me as a hydrating makeup-prep serum rather than a heavy-duty treatment product. One or two pumps gives me a smoother, more luminous base and enough grip to make foundation sit nicely, while the skincare ingredients help keep my skin from feeling dry underneath makeup. I am a fan of BANILA products and like that they don’t have garbage ingredients. I don’t typically use a primer because I feel like my “mature” skin can’t breathe, but I decided to give this a try.It’s a gel-like consistency with, like many of their products, just a hint of a scent that to me smells like rose. Don’t skip on it for that reason because it doesn’t last at all. I’ve been using this on its own with my skin tint and I do feel like I get a smooth finish and that it lasts a bit longer.This product is on the higher priced side for BANILA, but you really do not need much so it will last for a long time. I would purchase this again.
