Picture Perfect.
If you hated this bands earlier stuff, If you’ve heard bad things about this band. Forget all of that right about Now. Sal Villanueva’s Production, The bands raw talent and with the help of Warcon Records and Kevin Lymnan, The Meaning in makeup is easily my favorite album of the Year. Their sound has changed, but definetly for the better. I’ve grown up with this band, I attended school with them, both Bell Jr. High School and Morse High School, I’ve seen their sound change from when they played at our school and covered Larger Then Life songs in 8th grade, to selling out shows across the nation, &It seems that with every single release their sound matures and the band finds themselves little by little.The album has a really “retro-rock” feel, with dropped D guitars, amazingly catchy melodies that will even have Nigga Gianni or Scotty Bear singing in the showers for days on end and Larrys improved screaming, as evident in the track “We Are The Fabrication” which features Geoff Rickley of Thursday.This album delivers when It comes to music, 12 tracks, which is rare these days. We Start off with a piano intro tentively titled “The Meaning in Makeuup” which is a couple of second longs and then the album really shows you what’s up with “The Process”, the beats and guitar parts are not complicated at all, simple, but again, amazingly catchy. We move on to “Don’t Sleep” which was originally just a demo and made it onto the full lenght. It starts out with a kick / snare drum intro that easily catches anyone attention and then the agressive guitar riffs give way to begin the song. They didn’t really change the song, but the production is much better, as you can hear. “In between” is one of my favorites. Me being an old school fan that was there from day one, I noticed how MAH reused lyrics from a song on their “Certainty Kills EP” and geniously mixed it with “In between”, “I see the way, you stare, so easy love and fail, skies don’t bleed anymore, skies don’t bleed anymore” Fits in perfectly and the lyrics are more meaningful then ever. “Runaway” is probably one of the catchiest and poppiest songs on the album, but to no avail, It’s still one of my favorites. The band really knows how to make songs get stuck in your head. I’ve had this album about a month before the release date, &It’s still in my cd player, considering how I recieve 3-4 new unreleased albums a day, and I usually get bored with them real quick, this shows a lot about the album. I do have to say something negative though, Some songs do sound a lot like the others, but this is true with many albums, like the outros and the riffs, some sound the same, either way, still an enjoyable album. “Poison” includes one of the BEST break downs I’ve ever heard, the best thing about it is it does not include any “typical hardcore” sour notes. All clean, and It totally brings THE ROCK, and Larrys screaming is phenomenal.My American Heart have definetly gotten a lot better at everythingn they do. I’ve seen this band work so hard from day one, as No Way Out, playing local shows here at churches, school lunch, Soma, Epicentre, The selah building, can’t forget Canes (the big battle of the bands) and pretty much everywhere and anywhere they could book. They deserve every bit of success they are finally receiving and I think I speak for everyone here in Paradise Hills when I say, I’m DAMN PROUD. Pick up this release, don’t just download it off IRC, it includes a nifty Warcon Records Promotional DVD with “The Process” music video and other cool stuff, it’s only 10 bucks and in stores everywhere and you definetly won’t be dissapointed, keep in mind this is a touring band on an indie label, they need gas to get to shows and food to keep them going. There is something for everyone on “The Meaning In Make Up”, even my friends mom likes these songs. hahha. Easy listening for the rocker in you…
Rock, another label in a large category of other types of music. Not much is known of this art form, is it a fashion statement? A legend that died long ago in the late 80’s?, all the opinions are based on individual perception and different in everybodys mind. Almost a chaotic confusion sets in when a band plays with guitars and drums, “Rock” is often attached to that specific band but one band stands out from all the rest, My American Heart. A band formed in San Diego, which consist of Steven Oira(drums), Dustin Hook(bass), Jesse Barrera(guitar, vocals), Jeremy Mendez(guitar, vocals and Larry Soloman(vocals, guitar). The five brave individuals stepped up and created their own type of music in a almost closed minded society that states what is cool to listen to from a channel that doesn’t even show music videos anymore.Using unique guitar rhythms and drum beats, epic like compositions running 3 minutes a track, complex melodies and harmonies, lyrical structures, solos for each individual instrument in different songs, and an addition to each song. My American Heart is another alternative to the annoying screaming which leaves listeners wondering what are they trying to say, kept down to a minimum on their CD.As the title of this review states “easy listening”, this CD holds the power to unleash the rocker in a person. All the tracks leaves a person pumped and up for the next track. A must have CD for the lil’ rocker in you. With upbeat intro’s and melodic chorus’s leaving a listener breathless. As an added bonus to the CD another CD is included, containing their very own music video “The Process”, a preview of The Taste Of Chaos Tour, and other bands from the Warcon label.as you can tell i kinda know my !@#$… <3 MAHP.S. Thank god I went to Warped Tour…
I saw these guys this past year at Vans Warped Tour in Atlanta. To be honest, they really didn’t look like much at first, being that they played on one of the smaller stages on the tour. As we walked by amidst the merchandise and artist tents, we stopped to listen to them play. Wow. Guitars and Bass were crisp and sounded like they had been playing for years. Drums sounded awesome. Vocals seemed to have a lot of meaning behind them, and were delivered with heart. I loved the performance, and instead of heading back for Senses Fail like we had originally planned, we stayed for the whole show. After finding their profile on MySpace later, I noticed they had a major label debut on the horizon. So…I have to admit, I wasn’t a big fan of the “Don’t Sleep” rerecord. I heard the original version, and it sounded more rocky. The first single, “Process,” is a great rant against the self-loathing women exhibit in the use of cosmetics. All in all, a great rock band with some killer guitar riffs that have me playing air guitar pretty consistently. What amazes me the most, no one in the band is older than 18. I’d look for more good things to come from these guys.

Excitingly Good
If you’re new to My American Heart, than you will find out that this debut album is like nothing you have ever heard. The Vocals are unique, the lyrics superb, and all the talent on the instruments is amazing. Coming from 5 guys who are all younger than 18, they deserve your attention. For those of you who know them, get this CD! It’s great, not only are the new tracks really good but some older classics like the remake to “Ruins” are so highly improved on! You won’t regret the purchase of this album unless you don’t like asians (joke). In any case a great album from a great indie band and it probably deserves to be put on the radar. MAH 5 Stars all the way!

BUSTIN OUT AT THE SCENE(seam)haha
These guys have done nothing but get their name out there. This album marks their catapult into mainstream music, in my eyes. I was working in Best Buy last night and saw this album sitting on the shelf. And there were alot of copies, which means they know they are gonna sell a bunch. But as for this album, they combine intricate yet simple guitar lyrics with tescticle grabbing vocals that you cant help but LOVE. These guys are the next big thing to hit the store,and this album is sure to please,titilate, and enthrall the senses of any rock fan.

BETTER THAN SEX
I have been a huge fan of My American Heart for about a year now. Hearing their first self-titled release I wondered how 5 young guys could ever produce something better. I was absolutely fascinated by it. I listened to that cd religiously. But the guys from MAH have proved me wrong. Those 5 young men did create something better. The Meaning In Makeup is the best cd of 2005. I daresay Larry has matured as a vocalist and his melodies are stronger and more powerful than ever before. Jesse and Jeremy are two incredible guitarists. I am blown away that a modern band can have so much classic rock influence in the guitars. All of Jeremy’s lead parts completey blow my mind. Steve is an incredible drummer as well, with beats you wont be able to get out of your head. The ladies love Dustin and he has amazing stage presence. Props to these guys for making THE BEST album of 2005. I will be the first in line to see them on october 4th in philadelphia. buy this album.. you will not regret it.

Combining Scene with Rock and Roll…..Rock and Scene…..Scene and Rock…Scock
It’s been about a year since I first began listening to the My American Heart demo that I came across from the Taste of Chaos tour, and since then my opinion has done nothing but grow. Trust me, that made sense; with most bands these days, song progression doesn’t go much further than a catchy beat with several breakdowns just to provide kids with an opportunity to dance. What The Meaning in Makeup does is progress past that common musical stereotype and incorporate technical guitar riffs and catchy solos that reveal the band members to actually have musical ambition and talent enough to write songs that have compositional depth. Songs such as “Don’t Sleep,” which was featured as a demo, now has different backup vocals in places that make the song thicker and more melodic…even than before it was mastered! Of course, there are opportunities in several songs like “Poison” and “The Takeover” that have high appeal to those who listen to more of a hardcore or metalcore music because they lead to heavier climaxes at their end. But at the same time, if you listen to a song like “The Keys to My Organ,” you get a sense that the band has lived the material in their lyrics, a sense that they’ve had to deal with fake and insincere girls and guys the same way each one of us does in a day-to-day way. When I heard that I was a few years older than every member of the band, I had a bit of a skeptic view of what I’d be listening to, but was quickly blown away by how elaborate each song can be. The mere fact that I haven’t taken this album out of my cd player as well as the number of friends who have quickly become obsessed with The Meaning in Makeup don’t even begin to encompass how much this album will effect the popular music scene of today.
