Really beautiful color and feel, but might be off-putting to those sensitive to odd odors or tastes
I’ll mention the “cons” first since they may be deal-breakers for a lot of people, and it will save them time from reading the rest of the review. The downside of this product, one that may deter some users, is the smell and the taste. It tastes vaguely like Kool-Aid, and it smells like a cross between a fruity solvent and acrylic paint. The odor isn’t that noticeable unless you are generally sensitive to odors (and no way I would call this a “fragrance” because that to me, means it smells good), or, if you put your nose to it as I did for this review. As for the “flavor”, because the color mostly stays put, I found that once the color “sets”, it doesn’t travel into my mouth and I don’t taste anything at all. Still, when I first put it on, I was thinking “what the heck?” I debated whether or not the smell and taste were enough to knock off a point from a lip color I actually like a lot, but maybe it shouldn’t smell like I put craft paint on my face? Everyone has different sensitivities, but at least I haven’t seen any irritation or allergic reactions to this product.I ordered the color “Lychee” which is a very warm, beautiful, deep pink. I’m not usually a fan of matte lip colors since many I have tried make my already dry lips even drier. Some will even cake or crack off within minutes. Not so with this one–goes on like its name–smooth and velvety and even a bit buttery. I did buy the company’s “melting” lip gloss in a matching color to put on top to add a bit of shine and moisture, but it turns out I actually like the velvet lip color better than the gloss. While this is called a “tint”, it actually will put down quite a bit of color with one swipe, so for a more sheer, natural “stain”, try putting a small dab in the middle of your lips, and the blend it out with your finger. It is also helpful to use a lip liner pencil if your lip color tends to stray “out of the lines”, but the color generally stays on if you give it a couple of minutes to set before you top it with a gloss or drink a cup of coffee. The color will stay on at least through a couple of drinks, and there WILL be a slight lip-print on the cup or glass, but it won’t cover the entire rim with greasy or goopy lip color, leaving your lips completely bare in the process. I haven’t kept track of how long it stays on–it seems to last several hours if I don’t try to take it through an entire lunch. I also don’t think of it a real “stain” because I use those as well. I suppose different colors would leave more or less staining behind after the “balmy” part finally disappears. This particular color does leaves a slight blush at the end of the day which comes off easily with cold cream and a warm wet microfiber face cloth. This was also very inexpensive, especially compared to their other products, so I am interested in trying a few other of the colors soon since I love the way it looks.

Beware-The colors are never accurate
I used to love Nature Republic products but their quality and packaging has gone down hill. Additionally, their swatches shown are never accurate to their color. Packaging was opened, dirt in the box. Not confident at all that this isn’t a used return. Also the color looks absolutely nothing like what’s shown online. Online it looks like a mauve color in real life it’s like a red/brown. So disappointing in what’s happened to this brand.

Velvet soft indeed
Tint blends smoothly and looks airy soft on the lips. The scent is lightly sweet and not overwhelming . It isnt very hydrating but not too dry either. The stain doesnt last long, maybe an hour before it disappears and you have to reapply. Color is buildable and is easy to achieve a pastel lip look or a bold full color lip.

Hydrating Blurring Tint Formula, Beware Inaccurate Colors
The formula is very lightweight and thin as if you’re not wearing anything but still long lasting, very hydrating, and soft on the lips. I didn’t notice a flavor or scent but it wasn’t unpleasant or unscented either. I got the color Lychee but it’s a bright, cool- toned pink instead of the warm pinkish orange that was shown in the picture. The tint seemed to last all day at work (8hrs) even after I wiped it off with a napkin and ate lunch so I’d say it has a lot of longevity. Great value for your dollar especially at $4 it’s lowkey a STEAL and I hope they keep it like that! I then returned it and got the color Tangerine which is a very bright orange. It lasted through a spin class where my mustache area was definitely sweating and I definitely wiped my upper lip area with a towel during class but as you can see in my before/after class pics, the tint was unaffected. I will purchase the Guava shade and update after!UPDATE: the guava shade is indeed lighter and cool-toned like the chart shows. I wish there was a lighter and warm-toned color but this collection doesn’t seem to have that. Still very velvety and long-lasting although it will need re-applications after meals

Works well for my dry lips
The texture is buttery smooth and the finish is a velvet matte. I like the fragrance, smells like citrus. I just wish the color was more accurate to the picture. The picture of fig looks like a dusty neutral shade, but it’s definitely a more pink on me than expected. However I still like the color and the feel of this. Normally matte is too drying, but this velvet matte felt perfect. In the photo this is my lips dry with no chapstick. I think that’s pretty impressive. I kissed my hand after it dried, no transfer. I haven’t tried it with food/drink yet.
